Natural Treatment for Oily and Greasy Skin

Natural Treatment for Oily and Greasy Skin

Here’s a drug-free, alcohol-free, natural, gentle way to treat greasy and oily skin.

If you have oily or greasy skin you know how difficult it is to control without the use of harsh, skin-stripping alcohols or overly-drying soaps and detergents. Having skin that is excessively oily or greasy can make you very self-conscious. You worry about appearing ‘shiny’ or what someone will think if they touch your face.

If that wasn’t enough, oil and grease is prone to clog your pores which then encourages the growth of bacteria and the appearance of spots and black heads. The last thing oily and greasy skin needs is a cream or lotion containing vegetable or mineral oils as these will only add to the problem. Try to find a light, non-perfumed, non-coloured gel and add the following essential oils to it for a natural solution.

Spot-Busting, Grease-Cutting, Antiseptic Cypress. Cypress extract is naturally antiseptic, helping to first eliminate spots and blackheads. It’s deep, penetrating properties will then cleanse deep down to stop them coming back. It is also a natural astringent, helping to naturally done the skin.

Balance and Heal with Geranium. Geranium has a balancing effect on the skin, restoring excessively dry skin to it’s natural state by normalizing the secretion of sebum, the skin’s own natural oil.

Detoxify with Juniper Berry. Juniper Berry is another naturally astringent and antiseptic extract that, together with Cypress, will help keep your skin clear of oil and grease, destroy spots and blemishes (and prevent them from coming back) and gently tone the skin.

Juniper Berry also has the unique ability to ‘detoxify’ the skin, gently flushing out impurities from the pores to give you a deep-down clean feeling. Please not that the skin may appear to get worse in the initial stages of use before it begins to improve as waste products are expelled from the skin. This is perfectly natural and temporary.

Dilution Guidelines

It is very important that you need to know about the right mixing ratio of essential oils to base cream, gel or oil. Do not apply essential oils directly to the skin, dilute them according to the following guidelines:

20 drops of essential oil to 60ml of carrier oil, gel or lotion.

10 drops of essential oil to 30ml of carrier oil, gel or lotion.

5 drops of essential oil to 15ml of carrier oil, gel or lotion.

Please also note that you should use these oils for external use only and avoid contact with the eyes. Do not use essential oils on babies or young children without the advice of a qualified aromatherapist.

If you are epileptic, have liver damage, are taking medicines, have cancer, or have any other medical problem, consult a qualified aromatherapist or your medical practitioner before using these blends.

A skin patch test should be conducted prior to using an essential oil that you’ve never used before. If you suffer an adverse reaction stop using the blend immediately.
